Albert Watson Figurative Photography
Scottish, b. 1942
Albert Watson studied graphic design before becoming a photographer. His manipulation of contrast and superior sense of composition distinguish his portraits of celebrities and models. With an emphasis on the formal and sculptural properties of his sitters' bodies, Watson's images have not only appeared in numerous American and European fashion magazines but also in museum and gallery exhibitions.
In Watson’s famous nude photographs of Kate Moss taken on her 18th birthday in 1993, the model's spine pokes through the skin of her curved back, like the scales of a dinosaur, while the right side of her body is entirely shaded. In a 1989 portrait, Naomi Campbell's head is silhouetted against a grey surface, while her bare shoulders and the arch of her back are illuminated. In 2010, he was awarded the Royal Photographic Society's Centenary Medal and Honorary Fellowship.

Albert Watson's Monkey Portraits from the early 90s are one-of-a-kind icons. 'King Cazey' depicts a Chimpanzee with its arms crossed in front of its chest. Keith Carter is an American photographer who is known for his dreamlike black and white photographs of the figure, animals, and meaningful objects. He began photographing new and unknown realities using East Texas natives as subjects. This population and background setting spoke to the folklore, religious, and cultural motifs Carter was visually exploring. Since his start in Texas, his work continues to push imaginative realms while reaching prestigious artistic and technical status.
In 1970, Carter earned a Business Management degree from Lamar University and began his career as a commercial photographer while working on personal projects. These personal projects have become a strong and highly sought after collection that have become twelve published monographs. Carter currently teaches photography at Lamar University as a Distinguished Faculty Lecturer. He travels worldwide providing photography lectures and workshops for artists.
