Andre Normil Paintings

Haitian, 1934-2014
André Normil is a self-taught Haitian primitive master, born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on September 27, 1934, and died on May 2, 2014. He started to paint in 1951 at the Centre d'Art. Normil's primary activity has always been painting, and he paints Haitian life's daily scenes with keen observation and humor. His scenes are rich in colors, and his primary colors, composition, and techniques are the best Haitian art. In 1969 he exhibited in England, in 1970 in Germany and Italy, in 1971 in France. His work is included in the Musée d'Art Saint Pierre, Musée d'Art Nader, and the Milwaukee Museum of Art in Wisconsin, among other institutions. His works are a must for a serious collector. His name is cited in many Haitian art books. "Like Bigaud, Normil depicts scenes of daily life with a certain humor." (Peintres Haitiens by Gérald Alexis)

Avant le Déjeuner, by Grégoire Mathias – Still Life with Wine Bottles and Glass

Located in PÉRIGUEUX, FR

Avant le Déjeuner (Before Lunch) Acrylic on canvas board 16 × 24 cm (without frame) 35.5 x 43.5 x 4 cm (with frame) Signature: Lower left; also inscribed on verso Condition: Excellent, presented in a gilded frame In Avant le déjeuner (“Before Lunch”), Grégoire Mathias creates a playful and vibrant still life where bottles of wine, a glass, and a red-checkered cloth are arranged against the backdrop of the sea. The bold shapes and saturated colors lend the work a festive, almost theatrical quality, echoing the traditions of Synthetic Cubism while infusing it with Mathias’s characteristic rhythm and modern eye. Painted in acrylic on canvas board, the piece is framed in a substantial gilded frame that enhances its presence. Despite its intimate size, the composition radiates with energy, suggesting both the convivial anticipation of a shared meal and the joy of Mediterranean light. Signed lower left, this work reflects Mathias’s ability to turn everyday objects into striking compositions of color, balance, and narrative. Perfect For Collectors of Cubist-inspired still lifes Interior designers looking for colorful, conversation-piece artworks for kitchens, dining rooms, or entertaining spaces Buyers seeking affordable yet highly collectible paintings by Mathias Collector's Insights Small-format oils such as this offer an ideal entry point into Mathias’s oeuvre. They combine the immediacy of his vision with accessibility, while holding strong potential for appreciation as his international recognition and market continue to grow. 10h à Royan (10am in Royan) Acrylic on canvas board Dimensions (unframed): 27 x 22 cm Signed lower left Condition: Excellent, presented in a gilded wooden frame with linen inlay In 10h à Royan, Grégoire Mathias captures a serene moment of seaside life through the geometric precision and rhythmic energy that define his Diachronic Cubism. Set against the vivid blues of the Atlantic coast, a figure enjoys a quiet morning coffee as sun and sea interplay in harmonious color blocks. The composition’s strong lines and vibrant contrasts evoke both warmth and movement — the golden light of morning, the hum of conversation, and the timeless rhythm of a day beginning by the ocean. Mathias’s refined Cubist language transforms this simple scene into a layered meditation on leisure and perception, blending abstraction with recognizable forms. Executed in acrylic on canvas board and signed lower left, the painting balances structure and spontaneity, revealing the artist’s unique ability to merge classic Cubist heritage with contemporary clarity. Perfect for: Collectors of modern French Cubism and/or Mediterranean themed scenes Interior designers seeking colorful, geometric compositions for coastal or contemporary spaces Buyers looking for affordable, original works by a rising French modernist Collector's Insights Small-format works like this represent an ideal entry point into Mathias’s oeuvre. They embody his characteristic use of rhythm, structure, and color in a format accessible to new collectors, while holding strong potential for appreciation as his market expands internationally.
