Original aquatint etching “Untitled” by the Germans artist, Ferdinand Springer. Signed in lower right margin in pencil by the artist and dated 1951. Condition is excellent. Edition size in pencil in lower left margin 98/200. Sheet size (full) is 115 by 22.75. Image size is 9.75 by 18.75. The artwork is housed in a thin antique silver contemporary frame. Overall framed measurements are 19.5 by 27 inches. Under glass. Provenance: A St. Petersburg, Florida collector. Ferdinand Springer, painter and printmaker, was born to a German father and a Swiss mother in Berlin on October 1, 1907. After graduating from high school in Potsdam, he studied art history at the University of Zurich. He began painting in 1927 and visited Milan where he met the Italian painters Giorgio Morandi and Carlo Carrà. Springer moved to Paris in 1928 where he studied with Roger Bissière at the Académie Ranson. In 1932, he learned intaglio techniques at Atelier 17 in Paris and, in 1937, he traveled to New York where he exhibited at the Julian Levy Gallery. This artwork titled "Walking View, Left" 1990 is a color etching with aquatint by Santa Fe artist Ron Pokrasso, b.1951. It is hand signed, titled dated and inscribed artist proof in pencil by the artist. The image (plate mark) is 17.5 x 17.5 inches, framed size is 28.5 x 24.75 inches. It is custom framed in a mahogany frame. It is in excellent condition. About the artist: Ron Pokrasso has been an exhibiting artist, printmaker and educator for more than 40 years. He received his MFA degree from Pratt Institute in 1975 and has had over 50 solo exhibitions and has participated in more than 175 group shows. His work is in public, private, and corporate collections throughout the U.S. and abroad and is represented by several galleries nationwide as well as being featured in numerous books. For 11 years Pokrasso owned and directed Graphics Workshop (gifted to The College of Santa Fe in 1993). He is an originator of the printmaking event “Monothon” and has been an ardent supporter of arts programs for youth. His teaching experience includes universities, museums, public schools and private workshops, as well as Artist Residencies in the U.S., Scotland, Ireland and Italy. In 2000 Ron Pokrasso received the Mayor’s Recognition Award For Visual Arts citing his artistic and educational contribution to the city of Santa Fe. Currently Ron Pokrasso operates the Galisteo Street Studio in Santa Fe, NM offering workshops and assisted sessions for artists in addition to creating and exhibiting his artworks. This artwork, titled "Ceremonial Landscape" c.1980 is an etching with embossing on Arches paper by noted Canadian artist Janet Jones b.1952. It is hand signed and titled in pencil by the artist. It is numbered “21/30 e.v.”. The meaning of e.v. is “edition varied.” It indicates the artist varied the ink or paper or some other aspect of the printing process to create more than one image. The image is 18 x 15 inches, sheet size is 30 x 22.25 inches. It is in excellent condition, and has never been framed. About the artist: Janet Jones was born in Montreal, Quebec in 1952. She received her BFA in painting and photography from Concordia University - studying painting with Guido Molinari and Yves Gaucher, and photography with the experimental photographer Suzanne Swibold. Janet Jones is currently a Toronto based painter whose work has been exhibited across Canada, in Los Angeles, New York, England, Germany, France and China. Her recent projects include; the solo exhibition, The Dream Machine at Patrick Mikhail Gallery, Montréal (2017), two solo exhibitions, Playtimes (2015) and Joyride (2012) both at Katzman Contemporary Toronto, a national touring exhibition of her paintings, DaDa Delirium, with an accompanying catalogue (2011) with essays by Stuart Reid, Nell Tenhaaf and an interview with the artist by Georgiana Uhlyarik, and participation in the Empire of Dreams exhibition, MOCCA (Summer 2010) curated by David Liss. Jones has been a visiting artist in France, England, Russia, China, the Netherlands, and Cuba. Jones received her MFA from York University and her PhD from New York University in the area of art theory and criticism. Her dissertation titled: Clement Greenberg and the Artist /Critic Relationship, included interviews with Clement Greenberg, Jules Olitski, and other members of the ‘Greenberg Group’ and research gained through accompanying Greenberg on numerous studio visits. A Professor in the Department of Visual Arts, York University, Toronto, where she teaches painting, she has been Chair of the Department of Visual Arts and Director of the MFA Program in Visual Arts.
