Artist: Bernard Lancy (1892 - 1964) Lancy started working as a poster artist, mainly for cinema. He worked from the 1920's until the late 1950's. In 1945 he was named Honorary President of the Syndicat des Affichistes de Cinéma - The Society of Cinema / Movie Poster Artists. He is particularly known for his poster for La Grande Illusion by Jean Renoir (1937) which he produced for the film's release in 1946. This highly symbolic poster represents a statuesque German soldier of the First World War and a white dove, caught and wounded in barbed wire.
