This 2013 fine art print caricature, is legend opera star Luciano Pavarotti (1935-2007), the most commercially successful tenor of all time, holding the honorific title "King of the High Cs". This caricature was created by artist Dan Springer and shows the maestro singing, mouth wide open, hitting the highest notes in Opera on a Red-Maroon. It was mastered from the original drawing in high resolution digital format and reproduced in a numbered-edition series, on fine art archival pigment paper. Dan’s focus is to elevate the personalities of iconic celebrities by using exaggerations of some of their physical characteristics and also an oversimplification of others.
Dan Springer states:
“There’s the character and then the caricature. If it’s a celebrity, there’s always a persona that’s a caricature outside of who the celebrity is but in different layers. My goal is to bring out those layers of the character, in a caricature format that is defined by their facial image and their eccentricities.”
Dan Springer received his formal art training at the Rhode Island School of Design where he received his BFA in Illustration in 1991. Since then, he has done freelance illustration for various publications including "The New York Times", "The Village Voice", and "Avenue" magazine.
