Beverly Morrison Art
American, b. 1975
Los Angeles based sculptor Beverly Morrison has been honing her skills in clay for the last two decades, referring to her work as Modern Day Relics. Celebrating the rawness of clay while incorporating Eastern philosophies of imperfect beauty, she allows cracks, crevices and textures to play center stage through her minimalistic forms and vessels.
A process-oriented person, Beverly pays homage to her muse, mother nature, by mixing and developing her own clay bodies, participating in the “sculptural dance” from conception. She earned a BA in Studio Arts from California State University of Long Beach, but her greatest accomplishments in clay have emerged from a wellspring of deep intuition and self-education, guided by inspiration found in the natural world.to

“Contemplation” is an abstract clay sculpture of a female. The figure has both arms and legs extended, but the dignified pose suggests an intimate rather than a sexual moment. The sculpture is delicately rendered, but monumental in pose and clean composition reminiscent of the English artist Henry Moore. The surface is warm and slightly rough to the touch. This sculpture is in the round and beautifully balanced geometrically with the hands clasped behind the head forming a slightly flattened polygon shape that is echoed in the positioning of the legs and draped fabric of a presumed dress. The figure draws the viewer into her contemplation, peace and confidence. An exceptional piece by Midener.
