Carlos Mello Seating
Carlos Mello is the founder and head designer of MainGUILTY, a Portuguese design studio that sits at the intersection of product design and art. With a background deeply rooted in industrial craftsmanship, Mello focuses on transforming raw materials—particularly cork, wood, and metal—into functional collectibles. His creative process, often driven by his "UnderPressure" methodology, prioritizes experimental textures and organic forms. He frequently utilizes upcycling techniques to repurpose industrial byproducts, ensuring that his furniture and sculptural pieces maintain a distinct, tactile quality suitable for curated interiors.
Mello’s work has recently gained visibility through significant international and public projects. He was selected to represent Portuguese design at Expo 2025 Osaka with his "Wave of Connections" installation, a project emphasizing sustainable material use and cultural heritage. His portfolio also includes public sculpture, such as the commemorative piece commissioned for AEMinho in Ponte de Lima. An active participant in the European design circuit, Mello has exhibited at major trade shows like Decorex London and was recently recognized with the "Entrepreneurial Generation" award at the Mobis Gala.
