"Glyphs" Bronze Sculpture 9" x 7" x 2" in by Sarkis Tossonian
By Sarkis Tossonian
Located in Culver City, CA
"Glyphs" Bronze Sculpture 9" x 7" x 2" in by Sarkis Tossonian The sculpture consists of two pillars each one symbolizing Egypt and the other Armenia, the flower or star motif in the upper left signifies the enduring friendship and solidarity between the two nations, as does the golden ribbon tying them together in eternal unison. The lettering on either pillar includes alphabetical glyphs of each nation’s written script, Arabic for Egypt and Armenian for Armenia, as well as the words in each language for each nation; ‘Misr’ for Egypt and ‘Hayastan’ for Armenia. There is also ancient Armenian lettering on the Armenia pillar as well, which was created in 405 AD by M. Mashtots, considered the father of the Armenian alphabet. The sculpture was created before and as a preparation for the large sculpture pictured which is standing in the Freedom Gardens in Cairo Egypt Sarkis Tossoonian was born in Alexandria in 1953. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts/Sculpture in 1979. He started exhibiting in individual and group exhibitions in Alexandria since 1980 and up until now. Sarkis Tossoonian won the second prize in Sculpture in the 5th Biennale of Port Said in 2001.
