White marble case with stepped raised plinth with ormolu mounts and beaded decoration surmounted by an ormolu wreath and standing on decorative ormolu feet. Gilded chased bezel with bevelled glass.
Enamel dial with floral decoration, Arabic numerals and original gilded hands signed ‘Comptoir General, J.Pratt, Paris, 9 Bd Poissonnies’.
French eight day movement with outside countwheel and anchor escapement striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell marked for Samuel Marti. C.1880
The clock was retailed by Le Comptoir General a prestigious decorative and fine art store in France. At this time the Comptoir General was represented by J.Pratt who was located at 9, Boulvard Poissonnies.
