Clarice Cliff Cup and Saucer Rare Pine Grove Bizarre Ptn Art Deco, Circa 1935

By Clarice Cliff

Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire

This is a cup & saucer duo in the rarely seen, hand painted "Pine Grove" Pattern by the renowned Art Deco designer Clarice Cliff. This piece dates to the late Bizarre period, Circa 1935. The Pine Grove Pattern was Newport pattern 6449, having boldly drawn black, blue and green fir trees with orange/red trunks, the whole design then covered in thin grey, blue & green bands. This pattern is rarely seen but has the distinctive "Clarice" look of the early Bizarre pieces. The cup has the Bizarre black printed stamp on the base and the saucer has the Wilkinson's honey-glaze mark, all fully documented in the book ; Clarice Cliff The Bizarre Affair, written by Leonard Griffin and Louis K. and Susan Pear Meisel...

By Wilhelm Kage

Wilhelm Kåge (1889-1960) is one of the most well-known representatives of the illustrious Swedish ceramic design of the 20th century. This piece is marked "Gustavsberg Argenta 47 Made in Sweden". Swedish ceramic artist and designer, Wilhelm Kåge (1889-1960) was primarily active in the late-1920s through the 1950s and is best known for his contribution to functionalist style, as well his work as the artistic leader of the Gustavsberg porcelain factory. "Leaping Antelope Dish", Rare, Early work by Waylande Gregory for Cowan

By Waylande Gregory, Cowan Pottery

Located in Philadelphia, PA

This lovely oblong dish features one of the classic subjects of high style Art Deco design -- the leaping antelope -- but in other respects it is highly unusual. It is an early work of Waylande Gregory for Cowan Pottery, before he struck out on his own in the 1930s, and it is finished with a striking, speckled glaze in a rich, burnt sienna color, with a touch of green in the depths of the dish. Gregory was one of America's greatest sculptors and ceramicists before and after World War II. He was prodigious and indefatigable, producing a wide range of sculptures and wares in ceramic during his years working with Lorado Taft...
