Scandinavian Mid-century design art sommerso glass vase by Gunnar Nylund
By Strombergshyttan, Asta Stromberg, Gunnar Nylund
Located in Skarpnäck, SE
A fantastic and rather large handblown vintage art sommerso glass vase, design and signed by the talented Gunnar Nylund and Asta Strömberg from the prestigious Strömbergshyttan Sweden. This vase has a fantastic color, a deep smokey grey or nearly black color, covered with clear crystal. The design is simple yet very much of 60s and inspiration from the space age, it is sleek, elegant and sophisticated, especially with the fantastic contrasting color.
-It is 27cm (10.62") high and 8.5cm wide (3.34") and 5cm deep (1.96") at the base, in a teardrop shape and in a good condition, yet some minor abrasion underneath, and micro soot flakes yet overall a fantastic vase. The price includes free shipping.
Strömberghyttan; a company which early on grasped the importance of good design when it comes to art and design glass, rendering them a leading position in mid-century modern Scandinavian design.
Interior design and decoration which stood out with a distinct quality, very much due to the famous designers Gerda and Asta Strömberg. Many items with iconic design which Strömbergshyttan became famed for was often creations made by Asta Strömberg, who designed most of the glass, focusing on modern art glass and other interior design objects such as crystal vases. The company also hired the multi-talented award winning and iconic artist and designer Gunnar Nylund as well as Rune Strand...

Smoked Glass Bud Vase by Arthur Percy for Gullaskruf, Sweden, Mid-20th Century
By Arthur Percy, Gullaskruf
Located in Glasgow, GB
A mid-century smoked glass bud vase by Arthur Percy for Gullaskruf Glasbruk, Sweden, circa 1950s–60s. This modernist solifleur vase is crafted in warm brown glass with a soft translucence, featuring a spherical base and elongated tapering neck—an elegant study in proportion and restraint typical of Scandinavian glass design from the period.
Arthur Percy, a pivotal figure in 20th-century Swedish decorative arts, served as artistic director of Gullaskruf from 1952 and brought a refined, architectural sensibility to the glassworks’ production. His solifleur vases, such as this example, were designed not only to function as stem vases but also to sit sculpturally within minimalist interiors—characteristic of the era’s design ethos.
Standing approximately 18 cm tall and 10 cm in diameter, this vintage Swedish vase is a collectible example of mid-century modern glassware. In very good condition with no chips or cracks; minor surface wear to the base consistent with age and gentle use.
A considered addition to any collection of Scandinavian glass or modernist decorative objects.
