The history of the Dunhill watch starts with the founding of retailer Dunhill by Alfred Dunhill in 1893. During its early days, Dunhill's London store sold men's giftware and accessories produced by other makers, but it gradually began producing its own product line. By the 1920s, Dunhill had added watches to its offerings and, in the mid-20th century, had ramped up its watch production through partnerships with Swiss makers. When the quartz crisis struck, Dunhill embraced the demand for quartz watches by incorporating the technology into many of its timepieces. This change made Dunhill's sales strong throughout the 1980s and beyond. Today, Dunhill continues to offer limited edition mechanical and quartz timepieces, such as the Automatic Steel, the Royal Steel, the Slimline and the British Racing Green.
