"Like Nobody’s Watching" Hand-woven archival print

By Jason Chen

Located in Philadelphia, PA

Framed, Hand-woven photography print. This piece is an original artwork by Jason Chen titled "Like Nobody’s Watching". It is made of archival pigment prints from the artist's photography that he cuts and weaves together by hand. The piece measures 40.5”h x 30”w and ships framed in the pictured 44.75”h x 34”w frame. In 2012, Jason Chen shifted his long-running focus on dry plate tintypes to a new process: photo weaving. Chen began using two separate images of the same person, then wove them together in a process exploring time, movement, process, and mutation. He has exhibited works in the series one by one over the years, but in Fragments, his first solo exhibition at Paradigm Gallery, a full collection of these works were on display together for the first time. Bio // Jason Chen is originally from Guangzhou, China. He received his BFA in Animation from the University of Arts in 2008. Jason is a Philadelphia-based photographer specializing in Fashion, Editorial, and Alternative Process Photography...

Meschac Gaba (Benin, 1961- ) Artist with American Inspiration: 4 World Financial Center, 2004, Meschac Gaba, pigmented inkjet print, Hand signed, dated and inscribed '15 des 30 Artiste d'inspiration Americaine' verso. Dimensions: approximately 17 1/2 x 42 1/2 in. (sheet), 19 x 44 in. (frame) Meshac Gaba employs an intervention on an American dollar bill in Artist with American Inspiration: 4 World Financial Center, swapping out our stately eagle for his smiling face portrait. One of Gaba’s sculptures appears on the left as well. Meschac Gaba (born 1961) is a Beninese conceptual artist based in Rotterdam and Cotonou. His installations of everyday objects whimsically juxtapose African and Western cultural identities and commerce. He is best known for The Museum of Contemporary African Art 1997–2002, an autobiographical 12-room installation acquired and displayed by the Tate Modern in 2013. He has also exhibited at the Studio Museum in Harlem and at the 2003 Venice Biennale. Meshac Gaba was born in Cotonou, Benin, in 1961. He had drifted from his training as a painter until a bag of decommissioned money cut into confetti led him to make paintings with the material. 1981-1985 He was a student at the artist studio of Zossou Gratien, Cotonou, Benin. Gaba became known for his installations of everyday objects that whimsically juxtapose African and Western cultural identities and commerce. He held a residency at the Amsterdam Rijksakademie in 1996 for two years. In the absence of opportunities to display his work in the city, he set out over the next five years to make his own museum. This piece became his seminal The Museum of Contemporary African Art 1997–2002, which consists of 12 rooms (some based on museum function and others personal) filled with objects made by Gaba. Throughout the exhibition ran a vein of confessional narrative about the artist's art travails between Africa and Europe The wedding room, which he made while in love, holds mementos as museum artifacts from Gaba's wedding to the Dutch curator Alexandra van Dongen in 2000 at the Amsterdam Stedelijk Museum. The Library room holds art...

Wilhelm Schlote I love you (Ich liebe Dich) Giclee on Linen Year: 2015 Size: 15.4 × 12.0 inches Signed, dated and titled by hand COA provided ---------------------------------- Wilhelm Schlote (born March 4, 1946 in Lüdenscheid) is a German artist, children's book author, cartoonist and caricaturist. Schlote grew up in Essen. His first art teacher was Heinz Mack (member of the artist group ZERO), who recognized Wilhelm Schlote's talent for drawing early on. His mentor and friend Albert Schulze-Vellinghausen, who, as a literary critic for the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), was the predecessor of Marcel Reich-Ranicki, was just as philosophically influential. After graduating from high school, Schlote studied philosophy in Bonn until 1968 and then art at the Kunsthochschule Kassel until 1972. From 1973 to 1978 he was a teacher in higher education in Kassel and Hamburg. Simultaneously with the decision to go to Paris, Schlote was offered a professorship at a German art college. In 1978, however, Schlote decided to move to France, where he lived partly in Nice, but mainly in Paris. In 1980 he exhibited for the first time in the Medical Faculty of St. Germain des Pres in Paris. Since 2011 Wilhelm Schlote lives and works in Cologne, Germany. In 1968 Schlote published the first of a total of 35 children's books. Starting in 1976 he published cartoon postcards - the so-called "Schlote-Karten" - and in the same year received the German Youth Book Prize for “I wish for a hippopotamus today”. In 1991 he was awarded by the "Académie Calvet"; the award was presented to him by Catherine Deneuve and Claude Chabrol. Schlote's cartoons and drawings have appeared in magazines such as Die Zeit, Die Welt, The New Yorker, Le Monde and Le Figaro. He creates his city posters...
