1930s Napier Silver-Plate Cocktail Shaker Designed by Emil Schuelke
By Emil Schuelke
Located in Minneapolis, MN
Here is a hard-to-find modernist silver-plate cocktail shaker designer by Emil Schuelke in the mid-1930s and made by Napier Company of Meriden, Connecticut. The cone-shaped shaker consists of two pieces--the top can be used for measuring ingredients. This example is in good condition--there are no deep scratches or dents. There some silver losses on the body and top of the shaker and the inside strainer has loss as well. You can tell the shaker has been used--there is wear to the interior. We've included several photos which represent the condition well. But all in all, this shaker presents nicely and would make a great addition to any bar or cocktail shaker collection. From Wikipedia: "Napier silver designs from the first half of the 20th century are in museum collections including the Brooklyn Museum, Newark Museum and a substantial collection at the Dallas Museum of Art. Over the years, Napier silver has been featured in museum exhibitions, including Modernism in American Silver: 20th Century Design at the Smithsonian in Washington, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Wolfsonian in Miami Beach, the Nevada Museum of Art in Reno, and the Dixon Gallery and Gardens in Memphis, TN (2005–07). Napier designs have also been included in two shows at the Brooklyn Museum, entitled 19th century Modern (2011–12; 2013–15). In November 2016-November 2017, the iconic Napier penguin cocktail shaker...

Art Deco Silverplate Penguin Form Cocktail Shaker Napier Emil Schuelke
By Emil Schuelke, Napier Co.
Located in Atlanta, GA
A penguin form cocktail shaker in silver plated metal designed by Emil Schuelke (1901-1986) for Napier Co. circa 1936. In a beguiling form, the shaker resembles a standing penguin with details ranging from pointy beaker, beady eyes to flap arms, all rendered in an Art Deco style. One can only describe it as "adorable". A piece that is truly a marriage between function and decoration. Branded 'NAPIER PATENTS PEND. 234' on the base. The shaker retains the strainer inside as well as the insulated porcelain mouth stop inside the openable beaker. The Napier Company started in North Attleboro, Massachusetts 1878 and continued to become an icon of American Modernism. The penguin shaker...
