Federico Mazzotta Wall Decorations
Federico Mazzotta was born in Naples and mainly painted genre scenes. He began exhibiting in 1884 and has several works exhibited in museums such as the Wallraf-Richartz in Cologne and the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. Mazzotta is one amongst several celebrated Italian genre painters of the nineteenth century, whose works attempt to capture the timeless expression of the happiness of family life. His sympathetic observations of humble domestic interiors serve to celebrate the importance of simple, pure and joyous family values. Like his contemporaries Gaetano Chierici, Giovanni Battista Torriglia and Eugenio Zampighi, Mazzotta was keen to show that happiness was not dependent on material wealth, clearly portrayed through the cheerful healthy children delighting in simple yet joyous activities.
