The work of Andy Mister explores the boundary between mechanical and manual reproduction. Working with images appropriated from vintage photographs and deftly mimicking the Xerox aesthetic of punk zines and album covers, removing their specific historical context. Mister’s drawings question how meaning is created or lost through the act of “copying.” Mister says of the arrangement of his images, “It's something like my bedroom as a teenager, filled with images clipped from magazines: bands or writers that I admired interspersed with random images I found aesthetically interesting. I am interested in the relationship between images and connections that the viewer creates when encountering them, connections that I cannot control.” Andy Mister received a BA in English Literature and Philosophy from Loyola University of New Orleans, and an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Montana. This is an original drawing on paper by Hunter Stabler measuring 12”h x 12”w x 2.5”d framed. The piece is made from graphite, ink, transfer paper and Gelly Roll® pen on paper. Hunter Stabler was born in Jefferson City, Missouri and was raised in upstate South Carolina. He received a BFA in painting from The Maryland Institute, College of Art and an MFA in painting from the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently pursuing an MFA in Digital Art at Louisiana State University.
