Wealthy aristocrats did so and in return were rewarded with jewelry made of iron in intricate designs. The aristocrats were proud to show their loyalty to their country by giving their gold for iron. The Berlin Iron jewelry became highly desired in Europe. The wealthy requested their ambassadors to bring home examples for them.
