George Chambers Landscape Paintings
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, George W. Chambers settled in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1885, where he began teaching at the Watkins Institute, a prestigious art school and exhibition venue. In the 1890s, he joined the faculty of the Nashville School of Art. Later in his career, he focused on decorative art and stained glass. Chambers studied at the St. Louis School of Fine Art under Carl Gutherz and in 1880 went to Paris as a student of Jean Leon Gerome. On the 14th of June 1897, the career of this talented artist and a charming gentleman was cut short by death, and he was mourned not only in artistic circles but by a host of friends and admirers both in this country and abroad.
