Gord Smith Abstract Sculptures
Gord Smith studied architecture and engineering at Sir George Williams University and went on to work with the architectural firm of Lawson Betts and Cash in Montreal. In 1967, he was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA). He was Assistant Professor in the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Victoria from 1972 to 1975 and Visiting Professor in the Department of Art and History, McMaster University, Hamilton in the 1990s. Commissions and collaborations with architects include Webb Zefara Menkes, Arthur Erickson, Bregman Hamman, Leslie Rebanks and Gene Kinoshita. Smith's work is in collections of major institutions, including the National Gallery of Canada, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Queen's University, Musée d'art contemporain, the University of Victoria, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, Concordia University, McGill University and many more.
