Gustave Madelain was born in Charly, Aisne, in 1867. The painting depicts one of these subjects typical of the painter, brushed on the spot, without fioritura, the witness of the daily life of the Paris of the 30s. He was an exhibitor at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants, since 1907, he acquired a reputation as a painter of the river banks. Madelain died in 1944
