An incredibly rare and charming B2 poster for a 1957 Japanese re-release of the beloved Walt Disney classic 'Bambi.' The touching tale of a young fawn destined to be Prince of the Forest was the fifth feature-length animated picture to be released by Disney and was critically acclaimed for its graceful animation and lush hand painted forest scenes. Generations of viewers might cite the shocking death of Bambi’s mother at the hands of an anonymous hunter, symbolizing Man's cruel destruction of nature, as their lasting association with the film, yet the story endures as a celebration of life and the cycle of nature. In 2008, the American film Institute named Bambi the third best film in the animation genre. Featuring a lush full-bleed forest scene from the animation, this delightful poster was issued for a dubbed 1957 re-release, following the first Japanese release of the film in 1951, when Hollywood films were screened widely throughout the country during the US occupation. An action-packed Japanese B2 poster for the 1969 British crime caper "The Italian Job," starring Michael Caine as cockney criminal Charlie Croker, fresh out of prison and planning a heist in Italy. Consistently voted one of the greatest ever British movies, the quintessential sixties film has become a cult favourite and a Classic of the heist genre, while Caine's famous one-liner "You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" has taken on a life of its own. Despite receiving a Golden Globe nomination for Best English-Language Foreign Film, "The Italian Job" was not a success in America at the time of its release. Caine blamed its failure on a misleading marketing Campaign, explaining to Empire magazine that the US poster "was a naked woman and me. And I said, 'This is for kids. There aren't any naked women in it! We're going to get a load of old guys coming in to see naked women and they're going to be pissed off, and mums aren't going to bring their children.' They said, 'We're not going to change the poster,' so I got on a plane and came home." "Join the Army at Once & Help to Stop an Air Raid" Vintage British WWI Poster, 1915 This vintage British recruitment poster, published in 1915, calls on men to join the Army. In full, the text reads, “It is far better to face the bullets than to be killed at home by a bomb / Join the Army at once & help stop an air raid / God save the king.” On the poster, a silhouette of London lies beneath a spotlighted German Zeppelin looming above. This recruitment poster is displayed in a custom-built archival frame. WWI was the first time British civilians were in the direct line of fire in the modern era, creating the idea of the "homefront.’" Traditionally concerned with its coastal borders, Britain was highly unprepared for a sudden and prolonged German air raid. Throughout 1915 and 1916, successive German Zeppelin attacks ravaged several cities, but most notably London. These attacks continued until 1918, but newer aircrafts were used. The Germans hoped to enrage the British people so that they would demand their government made peace. However, their plan backfired when the United Kingdom cried for German defeat...
