American, 1903-1990
Harold Eugene “Doc” Edgerton was a professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Edgerton was a pioneer in using short duration electronic flash in photography, capturing such events as balloons at different stages of bursting; bullets impacting apples, bananas, and playing cards; and the surfaces of various liquids in motion. He created many striking images illuminating phenomena occurring too fast for the naked eye to see which now are housed in art museums worldwide.to

Ben Cope + Rowan Daly Off the Grid
Off the Grid is the culmination of a six-year photographic journey through Baja, Mexico. Ben Cope and Rowan Daly began their travels in 2014, working their way through the towns of la Salinas, Baja Mar, and Cantamar, down through Ensanada and la Bufadora. This series of photographs depicts the pair’s adventures and explorations. Off the Grid documents the textures, people, and places visited during this incredible journey.
Ben Cope is a Los Angeles based portrait artist with a BFA in ceramic sculpture and photography from Columbus State University. He maintains a successful career with a diverse portfolio including fashion, editorial, celebrity portraiture and advertising. In the 1930's Edgerton invented a device called the "Stroboscope" that produced intense flashes of light. The invention allowed photographic images to be instantly recorded that until then had been impossible to capture.
Over the succeeding decades Edgerton created arresting images of milk drops, water coming out of a faucet, bullets in mid-flight, dancers, athletes, and of course birds. Images that captured the details and beauty of motion.
Curiously during most of his career Edgerton was more active in the science and technology realms - working with the US' Atomic Energy Commission, Jacque Cousteau and teaching at MIT.
To this day Edgerton is still described as "Papa Flash"
This work can be found in several major collections including the Harvard Art Museum.
