Helen Howells is an artist living and working in the historic village of Caerleon in South Wales. She initially trained as a nurse, however following a career break whilst she raised her family, she took the decision not to return to nursing but to pursue her original ambition to become a fine artist. Upon completion of a foundation art course at the University of South Wales in Caerleon, in which she gained a distinction, Howells embarked upon establishing herself as an artist. She focused primarily on the dramatic Welsh seascapes and landscapes which she loved. Working predominantly in oil on canvas, she uses brush and palette knife marks to create rich textures that have been described as sensitive and expressive. Howells uses a semi-abstract style to capture the essence of the image, drawing upon her experiences and deep emotional connection with the Welsh countryside. Her work focuses on the dynamic nature of light and its interaction with the surrounding environment. The creation of each painting is an emotional journey in which Howells endeavors to engage the viewer to reach their interpretation.
