Henriette Amiard Oberteuffer Paintings
American, 1878-1962
Henriette Amiard Oberteufer was born in Le Havre, France, in 1878. She studied at the Academie Julian in Paris under Benjamin Jean-Joseph Constant and Jules-Joseph Lefebvre. While attending the Academie she met her future husband, an American artist George Oberteuffer. The two often exhibited together, including an exhibition at the Knoedler Gallery in New York City in 1920. A joint exhibition, which included their son, Karl Oberteuffer, was held at Vose Galleries, Boston, in 1940. Henriette exhibited at the National Academy of Design, the National Association of Women Artists and the Salons of America. She was an active member of the latter two. Oberteuffer died in Lexington, Massachusetts, in 1962.

Margaret Dobson was a painter, illustrator, muralist, etcher. Born in Baltimore, MD on Nov. 9, 1888. Dobson studied at the Maryland Institute, PAFA, Fontainebleau School of Art (Paris), and Syracuse University. She studied privately with Daniel Garber, Cecilia Beaux, Violet Oakley, Emil Carlsen, Robert Vonnoh, Hugh Breckenridge, and others. She was active in London, England until 1933. She then settled in Los Angeles where she remained until her death on Jan. 20, 1981. Primarily a muralist, she also painted floral still lifes and landscapes of the Sierra and southern California. Tamiko Oberholtzer (Japanese, 1928-2016) was born in Tokyo, Japan and later moved to the United States after meeting her husband, David Maurice Oberholtzer, while he was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Tamiko and her husband arrived in California by ship and then made their way to Indiana by car to her new home in Bowling Green, Indiana. In addition to her artistic talents, Oberholtzer was also an excellent musician, seamstress, and gardener. She passed away in November of 2016.
