Coffee Table "Nenuphar" by Hervé Langlais for Galerie Negropontes
Located in Paris, FR
After having explored rare materials, then the sculptural aspects of design in the vein of Brancusi and finally graphics, Hervé Langlais devotes to color his fourth collection colored Abstractions for Galerie Negropontes. Hervé Langlais has chosen to highlight color by using pure geometric forms. Inspired by the artists of the geometric abstraction movement of the 1950s and 1960s, he uses the line as a structural base for his creations. From Josef Albers - professor at Bauhaus and instigator of Op Art - Langlais retains the observation of the interaction between colors and the importance of perception. The eye is the driving force behind the work which flirts with the decorative, the playful and aspects of fashion. Langlais' works allow for the transition from flat, pictorial references to his 3D vision. Thus the side tables and Nénuphar table use the circle. For this fourth collection, the designer was also inspired by Italy, and more particularly by its great luxury houses and jewellers. Prada and Marni showcase the same colorful eclecticism: Refined and audacious. With this in mind Langlais has chosen to dress his pieces using lacquer...

"Rino I" Contemporary Side Table in Carved Marble by Estudio Orth
By Estúdio Orth
Located in Sao Paulo, BR
This Contemporary Side Table was meticulously handmade by master artisans one piece at a time. It is therefore quite difficult, if not impossible to make identical items. The projects are based on a contemporary appropriation of traditional methods from brazillian artisans and reinterpreted through the integration of new forms and noble materials. An aesthetic infused with “beauty of imperfection" is obtained by the expressive potential of each material, generating works that recall nature and rationality. Estúdio Orth...

Porto low tables are composed of a circular top that seems to rest on a sturdy oblong base. Lightness and weight overlap creating a harmonic and unconventional monoblock. The unagreement between the geometry of the elements generates irregular pieces capable of evoking movement, as they elude the gaze, changing according to the viewing angle. The tables give continuity to the Porto collection, whose inspiration comes from the weight and scale...

His works allow for the transition from flat, pictorial references to his 3D vision. Thus the side tables and Nénuphar table use the circle. The square is represented in the Homage to the cube side tables - a direct reference to Josef Albers’ 1956 work Homage to the Squares. Again, it is present in the Triptych mirror composed of squares reflecting each other, a mise en abyme of this simple shape. In the same way, Hervé Langlais explores the triangle in the Bosphore console or Prism side tables...
