What made India Mahdavi famous was her early work in architecture and design. After receiving an education at prestigious schools including the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, France, and the Cooper Union and Parsons School of Design in New York City, New York, the French-Iranian architect and designer went to work for Christian Liaigre and assisted with projects that involved creating high-end interiors. She struck out on her own in 1999 and in 2000, executed the design for the Hôtel du Cloître in Arles, France. The project gave Mahdavi the opportunity to show off her trademark style with an emphasis on bold colors, textures and whimsical flourishes. The project attracted attention and opened the doors for Mahdavi to become widely known for her achievements. Find a collection of India Mahdavi furniture on 1stDibs.
