Jack Madson, a Felton, California artist, studied at the Layton School of Art and the Cranbrook Academy of Art, 1957–58 (bachelor and master of fine arts). He was an instructor of painting at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills from 1959–62. In 1962, he moved to Kyoto, Japan and established a studio. He conducted numerous workshops, classes for drawing and painting in Kyoto from 1963–93. He also studied Japanese calligraphy and theater mask-making from 1965–80. In 1986, he moved back to Felton, California and established a studio there.
