Jacques Blin Blue Vase, c1965 Jacques Blin (1920-95) was one of France’s most promising and successful mid-century studio potters and ceramicists. He began working with clay during the 1940’s, but only made his passion his profession in 1954 when he gave up his career as an engineer and opened his first studio in Paris. During the early 1960’s, he developed his own hallmark style with the painter Jean Rustin, etching his designs onto the clay body before firing, and adding them with cloudy green or blue glazes and metallic oxides. His motifs focus on stylised people and animals, and were inspired by graffiti, ancient Greek and Cretan pottery...
