Oil on canvas painting on artist board by the American artist, Jean Leason Hitch. Signed lower right. Condition: good; no restorations. The painting is housed in a massive gold reproduction frame 24 by 22 inches. Jean Leasin Hitch began her artistic career in Melbourne, Australia, under the tutelage of her father, Percy Leason, a professional painter, well-known cartoonist and illustrator. After coming to the United States in 1943, she was appointed curator of art at the Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences, New York. While at the museum, she also began her restoration career and restored paintings from the museum's collection and other notable historic collections. Jean Leason Hitch was an active member in the Allied Artists of America, American Artist Professional League, Hudson Valley Art Association, served as vice president for the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club in New York, and in 1953, was listed in "Who's Who in American Art."
