American
Contemporary American artist Jeremy Lipking was born on November 2, 1975 in Santa Monica, California. He is the son of a professional illustrator, and while he emphasizes that he did not begin his formal studies until his late teens, the young artist’s early exposure to art gave him a sense of taste, perhaps the most important component of an artistic education. Lipking found himself most inspired by historic painters who combined the figurative tradition of the nineteenth century European art academies with an emphasis on the naturalistic landscape. Lipking enrolled in the California Art Institute, where he dedicated himself to long hours of drawing and painting, and now teaches his skills in art workshops throughout the country.
A versatile painter, Lipking’s artistic output includes landscapes and still lifes, however he feels especially compelled to paint the most classical of artistic subjects, the human figure. By painting his subjects in outdoor settings, Lipking’s paintings are reminiscent of the artists of the nineteenth century naturalist movement, and like those painters, Lipking prefers to work in a cool, limited palette to create his unique sense of mood. Lipking is a Signature Member of the California Art Club.

“By his own account, the most ambitious work of Michallon’s career was a thirty-foot canvas depicting Noah’s Ark, which he exhibited in the Salon of 1875, where it went unmentioned by the critics. Preparatory work for this elaborate composition took him frequently to the Jardin des Plantes, where he made painstaking drawings and oil sketches of the animals on view. A small oil on panel painting of ocean waves crashing onto rocks along the coast. The painting is only 6 x 8 inches, however, the measurements including the frame are 14 x 16 inches.
We are elated to introduce Jeremy Lipking (b 1975) to our clients, after many years of admiring this painter’s work from afar. A major artist in the Poetic Classical movement, we were pleased to hear that he was also turning his sharp eye towards the sea for inspiration. His loose and painterly methods ultimately translate into highly refined and emotive paintings, particularly in thee figurative realm. Inspired by the greats Singer Sargent, Zorn, and Sorolla, Lipking consistently measures up well to his heroes.
Jeremy Lipking was born in Santa Monica, California, the son of a professional illustrator and advertising designer. He studied at the California Art Institute, and after years of study on his own has created a painting style reminiscentof John Singer Sargent, William Merritt Chase, and Anders Zorn. Jeremy has won the ARC SALON and PRIX DE WEST, and his work appears in fine art magazines around the world. He has held solo shows at Arcadia Contemporary in New York and at the Autry Museum’s Masters of the American West in California. Jeremy has recently completed high society portraits in Paris and taken on new subjects of Western themes in his work. He is a Signature member of many leading art clubs, winning Gold Medal awards, Museum Purchase Awards and top honors. Rothe was honored to write a contemporary article on this modern master for Fine Art Connoisseurs November 2016 issue.
