John Reid Murray Paintings
John Reid Murray was born in Helensburgh and died in Prestwick. He studied at Glasgow before going to Antwerp Academy with E A Hornel. He exhibited with The Glasgow Boys in Europe. A landscape painter, his work was distinguished by the frequent use of heavy impasto with a fine feel for seasonal color, often with extensive foregrounding and low horizon. Murray gained a gold medal in Munich in 1897 and died before his full potential was realized. He represented in the Glasgow Art Gallery. Murray also exhibited at Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Academy, Royal Hibernian Society, Glasgow Institute and Walker Gallery Liverpool.
