John Welsh Paintings

John Welsh is a Hampshire based artist specializing in Landscapes and cityscapes of London and the South Downs. He draws his inspiration from the extraordinary weather and light of the English landscape. Born in the West Midlands, Welsh has spent his whole life exploring the beauty of landscape painters work such as Turner, John Martin, David Inshaw and John Shelley. Welsh’s specialty is his Raindrop series, where ordinary urban landscapes are transformed into magical expressions of mood. He creates images that assault the senses with expressive form and depth of color. Welsh exhibited at Chelsea Art fair Mall galleries with the Society of Equestrian Artists.

About the Artist: Alfred Wands, a renowned Colorado landscape artist, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated with honors from the Cleveland School of Art. He further honed his skills studying at the Académie Julian in Paris. After returning to Ohio in the late 1920s, Wands taught painting at both the Cleveland School of Art and the Cleveland Museum of Art. In 1930, Wands moved to Denver to head the art program at Colorado Women's College, where he spent the next 17 years. During this time, he frequently visited Taos, New Mexico, spending eleven summers there between 1930 and 1940, which deeply influenced his work. By 1943, Wands became the Camp Artist at the YMCA of the Rockies, teaching summer art classes. He later became the Chairman of their Religious Programs and Adult Advisory Committees. In 1947, Wands dedicated himself fully to his art, leaving his teaching position at the Women's College. In 1955, he opened a studio and gallery in Estes Park, Colorado, further solidifying his presence in the Colorado art scene. Known as the "Dean of Colorado Landscape Painters," Wands served three terms as the President of the Denver Artists Guild and held the position of Chairman of the Denver Art Commission for 16 years. He was a member of various esteemed organizations, including the Cleveland Society of Artists, Ohio Watercolor Society, and Chicago Galleries Association. ©David Cook Galleries...
