Joseph Henry Kirsop was a painter in oils and watercolor as well as an etcher of landscape, marine and some architectural subjects. He was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1886 and often painted views in and around Newcastle as well as Staithes in Yorkshire. He studied part-time at Gateshead School of Art and Armstrong College, Newcastle. Kirsop exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, in 1943 to much acclaim. He died in 1981.
