Joseph Murray Ince Art

British, 1806-1859

Joseph Murray Ince was born in London in April 1806, and he spent his childhood in Radnorshire in the Welsh Borders. He studied under David Cox from 1823–26 and then exhibited at the Royal Academy. He was a drawing master at Cambridge University during the 1830s. During this period, Ince painted many views of the Oxford and Cambridge colleges and returned to Radnorshire in 1835. Ince's works are in the collections of major galleries, including the Tate, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. Ince died on September 24, 1859, in London.
