Edition size - 225, plus proofs Year - 1977 About the artist- Yona Lotan (1926-1998) Jewish engineer and painter was born in Lithuania. His family moved to Tel-Aviv, Palestine in 1936. He served as a high-ranking officer in the Israeli Army and fought in the War of Independence. In 1959 Yona Lotan began painting; he's considered a self-taught, outsider artist. Lotan always had the unquenchable desire to draw. His one-man shows in Israel and Geneva were so successful that he left the army, sold all his belongings and moved to Paris in 1960 in order to devote his life to painting. His art was vibrant and he became well known, not only in Europe, but also in the United States. In 1965 he won the coveted Prize of Foreign Painting given by the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris. Along with Maryan, Avigdor Arikha, Mordechai Ardon and Yaacov Agam. he was part of a group of Jewish emigre artists who worked in Paris. Paintings of Lotan are contained in the collections of: Musee National d'Art Modern, Paris, Pompidou Center, Paris Musee Municipal d'Art Modern, Paris. Museum Boymans, Rotterdam. Cyanotypes were then made famous by Anna Atkins, considered the first female photographer. Inspired by nature, we feel the need to look back at a craft that is handmade, analogue, and using an all-natural light source: the sun. Our cyanotypes are made by coating high-quality Italian watercolor paper with a light-sensitive emulsion. We then expose it in direct sunlight for several minutes using a photo negative to get the best image quality. Finally, the print is washed and fixed with water to stop the reaction and prevent fading. What you get is an amazing, royal blue image...
