This stunning model "C5" chaise lounge was the brainchild of bauhaus trained designer Klaus Grabe, and was manufactured circa 1950. It is constructed of solid plywood, joined together by copious flathead screws, all of which are original to the piece. The plywood on this example is especially marvelous, boasting tons of dramatic, swirling zebra wood grain--it takes the piece to a whole new level.
The contoured form is ergonomically designed and extremely comfortable. It would be perfect outside on a patio, or in a yard amongst the flowers, but could also work inside with a nice shearling hide or cushion to balance out the rustic disposition of the piece.
The chaise is in great overall condition with lots of patina and character consistent with its age. Having spent most of its life outdoors, there are some minor cosmetic imperfections here and there, but with a piece like this, who cares...
