Rare and collectible 1968 first issue "Jouvence" Hermès silk twill scarf designed by Leila Menchari. The scarf is titled "Jouvence" (Fountain of Youth) and was Menchari's first scarf design for Hermès which was first issued in 1968. Her design was inspired by and represents a mythical "fountain of youth" whose waters have the virtue of rejuvenating. The design was reissued in 1988 and 1997.
The wonderful colourway comprises of a cherry-red and gold border surrounding a white center background with design details rendered in golds and navy blues with red accents. The silk twill is still crisp and the hand-rolled, hand-sewn edges are still plump. It is signed "Hermès Paris" and "Leila M.". The fact that it does not bear neither a copyright sign nor a care tag classifies it as being a 1968 issue.
This scarf is guaranteed authentic and has not been on the market prior to this. No box, but will be wrapped with love. Worn very little and neither dry cleaned nor washed the design shows the original folding lines. Please read our condition report below.
Excellent vintage condition. Very faint folding marks which are noticeable upon close inspection only. Just mentioned for accuracy.
