By Lucien Mignon

Located in Cotignac, FR

French Impressionist landscape, oil on canvas by Lucien Mignon a close friend and pupil of Renoir. The painting is signed and dated (1935) bottom left. Presented in carved wood, patinated and gilt Montparnasse frame. A charming view of a wooded glade in a park. Mignon has used his characteristic style, very reminiscent of his master and tutor Renoir, to create a wonderful atmospheric scene. the shade of the majestic trees, the lush green of the grass, the bright pops of red colour of the flowers and the indistinct figures walking along the path. He has created a very successful perspective that draws us in to the scene. A jewel of a painting that would grace any collection or interior. Lucien Mignon (13 September 1865 – 13 March 1944) was a French painter, illustrator, lithographer and pastellist. He was one of the first pupils and disciples of Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Born on September 13, 1865 in Château-Gontier, Lucien René Mignon attended the School of Fine Arts in Angers. He went to Paris and became a pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he was admitted in 1886. He exhibited at the Salon des artistes Français in 1889, a painting entitled Une Flânerie Sentimentale. He then exhibited with the National Society of Fine Arts (SNBA) from 1895 drawings and paintings of landscapes inspired by Angers. In 1898, at the same Salon, he exhibited three paintings, including landscapes inspired by Fontainebleau. In 1902, he divided his time between the rue du Cardinal Lemoine in Paris and Montigny-sur-Loing, which inspired the landscapes he exhibited at the SNBA, of which he was a member. In 1908, he presented La Liseuse for his last exhibition at this Salon before the First World War. He worked for the publisher Édouard Pelletan, who exhibited his work (February 1896). Around 1909, he left the 5th arrondissement of Paris and settled in Cagnes-sur-Mer, producing Provençal landscapes and motifs; he became close to Auguste Renoir, whose portrait he painted in 1913. Mignon's style is very close to that of Renoir, and his so-called "Ingresque" period. Peaches and Green Almonds, a painting exhibited in Paris at the Musée d'Orsay, dates from this period. In the 1920s, he continued to exhibit at the SNBA. He also carried out commissioned work for the Ministry of Public Works in connection with historic buildings. Works in public collections: Commentry, mairie : Les Quatre Saisons, 1925, quatre dessus de porte, huiles sur toile. Laval, musée du Vieux-Château : Le Repas du nourrisson, 1879, dessin12 ; L'Enfant endormi, 1899, aquarelle13 ; Nature morte, vers 1900, huile sur toile14 ; Travaux d'aiguille, 1913, sanguine15. PROVENANCE Private Collector, Madrid An elegant night view of the Parisian Republic Square, with amazing light effects that catch us. This work executed based on brushstrokes of long and safe strokes that make the forms vibrate with vivid color. Parisian nightlife is trapped in this corner of Paris. The monumental sculpture that symbolizes freedom and that presides over the square serves as a reference behind the tram between a light chiaroscuro. Meanwhile, the effervecent and lively life of the cafes that surround it vibrate strongly with its bright lights. Èdouard León Cortés (1882–1969) was a French post-impressionist artist of French and Spanish ancestry. He is known as "Le Poète Parisien de la Peinture" or "the Parisian Poet of Painting" because of his diverse Paris cityscapes in a variety of weather and night settings. Cortes was born on August 6, 1882, in Lagny-sur-Marne, about twenty miles east of Paris. His father, Antonio Cortés, had been a painter for the Spanish Royal...
