Mario Villa Signed Bronze Mixed Metals Male and Female Nefertiti Table Lamps
By Mario Villa
Located in North Miami, FL
This pair of Mario Villa bronze and mixed metal table lamps are male and female and are coined the Nefertiti lamp. Skeletal, sculptural, mummy like and haunting all at the same time make these lamps a conversation piece and nod back to history of other worlds and other times. Mario Villa was a designer in many mediums and had multiple chic designer shops back in the 80s one of which was near the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. He designed chaises, daybeds, chairs, lamps, tables and etc. He was also a painter and sculptor. He was born in Nicaraguan and lived and worked in New Orleans. Unfortunately he passed away many years ago in 2019 at the age of 68.
These lamps are comprised of bronze metal, gilt plaster head, distressed steel on the round base with a copper edge. They are sold as a pair. They have not been rewired since the time they were made nor will be. The shades do come with them should you desire. They are 30" H to the finial and 24" H to the top of the socket. The base is 7 " Diameter. The wrapped mummy body is 21" H x 4" W at its widest point. They are conversation lamps with a high level of sophistication. These date from the late 90s. Many variations of this theme of the mummy...
