An exceptional early Martin Brothers floral decorated vase by Robert Wallace Martin dated 1881. This finely made stoneware vase is of rounded bulbous shape standing on a narrow round pedestal foot and with a narrow funnel neck top with a wide folded back rim. The body of the vase is hand decorated with flowering stems decorated in white and brown slips with bluey grey centres to the blooms and set against a fine shagreen rough cast ground. The foot has a simple repeat pattering around the flat edge and both the foot and top are decorated in brown glazes.
