Contemporary Ceramics, Naturalistic, Earthly & Aquatic Glazed Stoneware Vessel
Located in New York, NY
Stoneware and Glaze vessel entitled 'Nino', from 'Collection Earthly Aquatic' by New York-based artist and ceramicist Jenny Min. This piece could be mistaken for a mermaid's treasure - it is remarkably naturalistic for being crafted by human hands. The exterior is finished in a matte charcoal while the interior is glazed in a glossy ivory, reminiscent of a seashell one might carry home from the beach as a memento of a beautiful day. This piece is available to view in situ at our gallery, which is situated in an 19th century townhouse on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, and currently exhibited in a group show entitled "Green World" on view through March 13, 2023. Jenny Min employs clay primarily but also utilizes photography, drawing, and story-telling in her work. She transitions between delicate, fluidly thrown pieces with a painterly finish to sturdier hand-built sculptures approaching the primitive. Her craftsmanship is reflected in her well- proportioned and elegant forms that allow her a range of expressions. Min cites her interest in indigenous cultures and anthropological studies for their unadulterated forms of human expression and symbolism. She develops pieces that are reminiscent of ancient vessels...
