Large round female profile painting on wood tondo with green floral pixel background inspired by Eastern European textile motifs.
This sculptural wooden tondo is part of the first group of large-format “coin” paintings developed by Natasha Lelenco in 2019. Executed in acrylic on plywood, the circular panel transforms portraiture into an object-like presence, merging contemporary figurative painting with the symbolic language of currency and medallion imagery.
The female profile, rendered with quiet precision, emerges against a dense green floral background structured through pixel-like forms. The ornamental field references traditional Eastern European carpets and woven domestic textiles, yet its geometric simplification evokes a digital surface. This tension between handcrafted heritage and pixel abstraction situates the work within a dialogue between memory and modern visual culture.
Unlike conventional coin iconography, which standardizes identity through official figures, this large round painting presents an anonymous subject suspended within decorative pattern. The circular format reinforces notions of value, circulation, and symbolic authority, while the pronounced thickness of the wood panel (tondo construction) enhances its sculptural dimension.
The result is a statement round artwork that operates both conceptually and decoratively. Its strong contrast between the green floral pixel background and the refined profile silhouette makes it particularly suited for contemporary interiors, curated collections, or architectural spaces seeking bold circular wall art...
