Oskar Fishinger (1900-1967), began his career in Germany as one of the pioneers of the Germans avant garde abstract film movement, known for inventing abstract musical animations, and what was often reffered to as, Optical Poetry. He arrived in Hollywood in 1936 where he worked in film until 1947, before turning his attention exclusively to his abstract painting.
