DESCRIPTION
A vintage heavy solid brass Chrysanthemum leaf, made in Waynesboro, Virginia by Virginia MetalCrafters. The leaf was designed by Oskar Hansen, it is hand crafted, hand finished and of the highest quality, probably made in the 1960's. The leaf is marked on the bottom with the following: the VMC insignia / 3-41 / Copyright 1948 / Chrysanthemum. The leaf measures approximately 5 1/2 inches long, 4 5/8 inches wide and 1 5/8 inches at its tallest. The Calathea leaf measures approximately 10 1/4 inches long, 3 1/2 inches at its widest and 3/4 inches at its tallest. The discolored coating has been stripped from the leaf and it has been cleaned and polished.
BIOGRAPHY OF THE ARTIST
Oskar J. W. Hansen (March 12, 1892 – August 31, 1971) was a Norwegian-born, naturalized American sculptor, but also did extensive writing on theology, astronomy and the arts.
