Otávio Motta Furniture

Brazilian, b. 1976

Otávio Motta is a Brazilian contemporary sculptor active in both Brazil and the international art scene. His practice centers on the investigation of material as a sensitive, expressive entity, exploring how physical matter can hold, transmit, and respond to forces such as memory, perception, and presence.

Motta’s work fuses natural wood, metal, resin, and industrial elements, merging precise craftsmanship with conceptual research. Rather than treating these materials as inert, he approaches them as active participants capable of generating tension, vibration, and spatial awareness. His sculptures function as experiential objects, inviting the viewer to engage physically and perceptually, not just visually.

Informed by an ongoing study of materiality and invisible forces, Motta positions his work at the intersection of contemporary sculpture, design, and architecture. The result is a body of work that acts as both physical structure and conceptual inquiry, engaging the viewer in a contemplative experience of form.
