KEM Weber (1889-1963) was a German-born architect and furniture designer. His birth name was Karl Emanuel Martin Weber but in 1914, he changed his first name to a less German sounding, 'Kem' when he became stranded in the USA after the outbreak of the First World War. This model was developed and produced by the family in the post-war period. It revolutionized furnishing furniture in schools and universities. The chair was light, state-of-the-art manufacturing processes were implemented. The backrest and seat are made of moulded laminated plywood (pagwood). Due to the low material thickness, the weight is reduced, the glued wood layers make the material extremely stable and yet flexible.
Overall in good vintage condition, with expected signs of age such as surface scratches and smaller scuffs.
No missing parts and in completely original condition. No cracks in the wood and structurally good.
