'Portrait of Woman in Berlin', acrylic on board, by Peter Robert Keil (circa 1980s). Reminiscent of a cabaret character from pre-war Berlin, it was a time of anxiety, but also a time for hedonism, sexual liberties and artistic experimentation. In that period between the wars, Berlin was known to be a place that broke the social conventions of its era. This painting captures the spirit of that era although painted, we believe, in the 1980s. The artist uses intense-to-lurid colours which have become characteristic of his painting style. The only constraints here are the boundaries of the canvas. The work is in good vintage condition and has been newly framed in a tray. The artist signed the work in the lower left hand corner.
