About the Artist: Pierre Cornu was born on November 16, 1895 in Salon de Provence, France. From a well-to-do, oil and soap trader family, Cornu had a pampered and carefree childhood. Drawing and color attracted him at a young age. Cornu studied at the celebrated Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and studied under Emile Othon Friesz, a French artist of the Fauvist movement, and François Desnoyer, a French Impressionist and Modern painter. Cornu was lucky enough to be able to dedicate his entire life to his true passion of painting. His paintings were featured in all the great Parisian salons, exhibiting at Auguste Chabaud and René Seyssaud in Marseille and at the 1933 Salon d’Automne in Paris.
Financial concerns forced him to emigrate to Morocco from 1939-1945. There, he started a new life as a photographer, but continued to paint. He perfected his art in an abundance of beautiful colors, echoing oriental tapestries...
