Anatomy Study #63
Contemporary Nude Oil Painting of toned male with outstretched arms
Painted by Robert Goldstrom in 2023, 10 x 8 inches, 11 x 9 inches framed in white wood frame
Robert Goldstrom is best known for his Brooklyn landscape paintings, but he is similarly prolific with his anatomy studies. Goldstrom comes from a background in illustration, and these roots can be seen throughout his figure paintings. A hallmark of his style is the way Goldstrom uses softly blended colors and his purposeful use of shadows to accentuate the organic shape and form of the figure. In this specific piece, the face is obfuscated in shadow, forcing the eye to focus on the prominent deltoids and latissimus muscles, brought to the foreground. Goldstrom's painting style is subtly pointillist with peppered brushstrokes that reflect light off of the natural curvatures of the muscle. The background color of this canvas falls between a deep dusty rose or burnt sienna, which complements the figure's warm naked skin tone.
