Rogan Gregory Chairs
Although he began his career as a fashion designer, Rogan Gregory found his calling in the modern sculptural arts. Gregory creates abstract and figurative sculptures in fluid forms inspired by the natural world using materials including stone, metal and sand. His curving and sinuous sculptures achieve an asymmetrical harmony, while their amorphous nature is reminiscent of magnified cellular life forms. He has also experimented with more functional creations, making sculptural chandeliers and pendant lights as well as furniture like lounge chairs.
Initially working as a luxury fashion brand design consultant, Gregory launched his clothing collection in 2001. In 2005, he collaborated with Ali Hewson, the wife of U2’s Bono, to create EDUN, which is part fashion label and part social activism project. By 2007, he had received the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award, one of the most influential industry prizes.
While his fashion career was successful, Gregory switched paths in the mid-2010s to the world of interior design, creating a line of tables, lighting fixtures and decorative objects. Gregory’s furniture and decor are marked by a meditation on life and organic shapes. He finds inspiration in geology, ecology, biology, evolution and the reproductive process.
His first solo exhibition was at R & Company in 2016, followed by his second solo show in 2018 at R & Company’s new Manhattan gallery. In 2020, Gregory moved from New York to Los Angeles and set up a new studio in a former Santa Monica garbage truck depot. The spacious new studio allows him to work on more large-scale pieces.
Gregory’s work has been featured in major media outlets such as Architectural Digest, ELLE Decor, The Wall Street Journal, Surface and Wallpaper.
