Russell Brutsché has been painting since early childhood. He attended San Jose State University, where he studied under Eric Oback, Robert Freimark (student of Henri Matisse) and Sam Richardson, and graduated with scholarship honors in 1968. Brutsché has since been in numerous one-person and group shows throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Colorado, Arizona and Japan. In 2001, he had a one-person exhibit at the Museum of Northeast Nevada, as featured in VIA magazine. In 2008, Brutsché’s  illustrations were used as book covers for novels Iowa Terror and Guests of the Nation by author Mike Palecek. He currently participates every October in "Santa Cruz Open Studios" and other shows throughout the year. As a songwriter, Brutsché has performed in clubs and venues in California, Canada and on Island Princess Cruises. He wrote and produced the album Julienne in 1980. His most recent release (2005) was Restless Heart, featuring 14 original songs.
